Joy Grimes, violin, viola and fiddle

 Joy Grimes is an active violinist, violist and educator in the Boston area. She performs regularly on both modern and period instruments, in orchestras, solo and chamber recitals, contra dances, fiddle festival and more. Her current endeavors include performing with Handel & Haydn Society, The Bach Project, Providence Singers, Spire, Portland Bach Project, Marsh Chapel Collegium, Ulster Landing, Symphony New Hampshire, New Bedford Symphony, Hear Soul Voice and Folk Baroque. Joy spent four seasons with the Utah Shakespearian Festival as a baroque violinist, dancer and fiddler, toured Ireland with West O Clare Irish traditional band, and has spent time at summer festivals including the Boston Early Music Festival fringe series, Conclave, Amherst Early Music Festival, and International Baroque institute at Longy. Joy holds degrees from; Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and Boston University where she completed a Master’s degree and Doctorate in Viola performance under the tutelage of Michelle LaCourse, and Ed Gazouleas. Joy is currently on the faculty at the Suzuki School of Newton. When not playing music Joy can be found contra dancing, foraging or hiking, and tipping her hat where she volunteers at Waltham fields community farm.
