Purcell & Friends: THE TEMPEST

June 16, 2019, 5pm | Connecticut Early Music Festival, New London, CT

March 22, 2019 8pm | St. Paul's Cathedral, 138 Tremont Street, Boston

Long attributed to Henry Purcell, and more aptly named "Purcell & Friends," This adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest  features the works of several composers: Pelham Humfrey, John Weldon, Matthew Locke, John Banister and Jean- Baptiste Lully among others. This work was written and re-written for the stage in at least three recognizable versions.  Led by Ian Watson from the harpsichord, the Henry Purcell Society of Boston will re-create the work yet again- using music from the 1674 versions and adding music curated by Jessica and historian James Winn to showcase our phenomenal musicians.
